The One Day AI programme provides an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) and shows participants how it is being applied today. The course is aimed at non-technical persons, with no prior experience of working with AI, or anyone with an interest in finding out more about this field of technological development.
Participants will learn about the history of AI, how AI is being applied and future trends in AI.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, a professional, or general, interest in the field of AI is useful.
This course is aimed at non-technical persons, such as executives, managers, or any individual who is inquisitive about AI and its implications in our places of work and our lives in general.
The one-day course runs a morning and an afternoon session.
The morning session begins with an introduction to AI and the history of this field.
The course will then move onto address some key topics: artificial neural networks, machine learning, deep learning and AI in cloud computing, using examples such as Amazon, Microsoft, IBM and Google.
The afternoon session will begin with an introduction to how AI is being applied, followed by several specific topics: AI applications in healthcare and medicine, and AI applications in manufacturing (Industry 4.0).
An interactive session with participants discussing how AI could be adopted within their business or workplace, potentially to increase productivity, reduce costs and enhance their organisation’s competitive edge, will also take place in the afternoon. The day wraps up by looking at future trends in AI.
On completing One Day AI, participants will benefit from a clear understanding of AI and how they can be applied. The interactive, discussion-based, session within the one-day programme will provide participants with ideas about how they might adopt AI in their business or place of work.
One Day AI is taught by Professor Perry Xiao, who heads the BioEngineering Research Centre at LSBU’s School of Engineering. Perry is a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a senior fellow of Higher Education Academy. He is also a director and co-founder of Biox Systems, a university spin-out that has designed a novel sensing technologies used in the FMCG and cosmetics industries.
The course will be taught online via LSBU’s learning platform.
This one day course will total approximately 8 hours and be comprised of two sessions, beginning at 09:00 and finishing at 17:00.
There is no formal assessment for this course. Each participant that attends the full course will be given a completion certificate.
There is no formal accreditation for this course. By the end participants will have a comprehensive understanding of AI and be able to develop ideas about how AI could potentially be applied within their place of work.
