Hall effect measurements are widely used for the characterisation of materials. The technique exposes materials to a magnetic field of varying strength and measures the potential difference (Hall voltage, Vxy) that is induced perpendicularly to moving charge carriers and the magnetic field. The technique also measures the voltage (Vxx) and the current (IR) across the sample. From these measurements, it is possible to determine material properties such as the charge carrier density, the charge carrier polarity, the charge carrier mobility, and the material conductivity.
Our custom-built Hall effect instrument has a number of differently sized sample holders to meet most applications.
