Overview
The Digital Assets, Payment Rails, Blockchain and the Future of Finance programme provides an introduction to different major blockchain platforms and consensus mechanisms, such as open blockchain, private blockchain, privacy layer on open blockchain, proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain and be able to compare their pros and cons.
Participants will learn about the future of finance, exploring fundamental blockchain technology design principles, as well as the possibilities and limitations of this technology. The course will explore the link between blockchain and finance and its disruptive potential in relation to the financial services industry.
The course will also explore a range of digital assets types, including central bank digital assets, cryptocurrency, security tokens and decentralised finance governance tokens.
Basic regulatory and legal considerations for blockchain and cryptocurrency will also be covered as well as use cases of blockchain technologies, traditional payment rails and digital asset payment rails.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, a general interest in payments and digital assets for corporate change and innovation, fintech and financial services and future of finance is useful.

What does this course cover?
Digital Assets, Payment Rails, Blockchain and the Future of Finance will cover several key topics: fintech, digital finance, alternative finance.
The course will introduce participants to different types of digital assets, including cryptocurrency, tokens, stable coins, security tokens, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Participants will be presented with real case studies where various types of digital assets have been used, to understand their various benefits and future potential.
Participants will examine case studies that highlight the benefits and efficiencies of new payment rails, as well as current shortfalls of existing payment systems to enable comparisons.
Participants will also be asked to consider the possible solutions that potentially make payments more inclusive and these can be expanded beyond a local economy to a wider, international market.
Regulation and taxation of blockchain and crypto-assets in the UK will also be covered.
The course will also address basic “tokenomics” and smart contracts.

Digital Assets, Payment Rails, Blockchain and the Future of Finance is taught by leading blockchain and digital finance experts:
Bridget Greenwood, founder of the Bigger Pie and co-founder of Syndikat Ltd. Bridget started her career as an independent financial adviser, before focusing on financial services social media.
Veronica Mihai, founding partner of Bloomwater Capital. Veronica has over 15 years’ experience in management consulting for enterprise programmes in the UK and Europe and is an entrepreneur and investor.
Jannah Patchay, regulatory and market structure advisory at Markets Evolution. Jannah also provides regulatory and policy advocacy at London Blockchain Foundation.
