Overview
This intensive hands-on two-day Introduction to Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography course is designed for health care and medical professionals with no or limited experience in Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound.
This highly practical course aims to enhance practitioners’ understanding of the theoretical principles and applications of Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound and awareness of the normal and pathological findings identified through the use of ultrasound.
This course will take a blended approach to learning. It will provide a range of learning formats and teaching delivery styles and allow an individual approach, providing participants with some flexibility in their preferred learning style. Hence, the course comprises a mixture of lectures, demonstrations, case studies, and practical workshops. The practical workshops take place in small groups with close supervision from our expert tutors.
The course includes scanning techniques and protocols of all peripheral joints including short lectures on basic physics, image optimisation, anatomy shorts lectures ensuring participants are all familiar with the anatomy for each region we cover, normal appearance of the anatomical tissues and structures in ultrasound, overview of pathology case studies, as well as clinical governance issues and regulation.
The Introduction to Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography course takes place in the brand-new clinic of London South Bank University, at 56 Tabard Street, London SE1 4LG.

Entry requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Degree in a relevant healthcare subject or equivalent overseas professional qualification
- Current registration with the relevant UK regulatory/professional body (e.g. GMC, GOC, HCPC, GCC, BASRaT, SST, NMC) or equivalent overseas regulatory/professional body.

What will participants achieve?

Who teaches this course?
Stavros Daoukas
Stavros is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation in the Institute of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University (LSBU).
Alongside academia, he works as a Band 7 MSK Sonographer in the Radiology Department at Queen's Hospital NHS Trust in Romford, London UK.
Stavros serves as a Deputy Editor at Ultrasound, Journal of the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS); Accreditor at the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE UK); Committee Member in the Research and Education Committee at the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy (WFATT); and he is the President of the Greek Association of Athletic Therapy and Rehabilitation (PASTaR).

How much time will this course take up?
The two-day Introduction to Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography course is delivered face-to-face and it takes place in the brand-new clinic of London South Bank University, at 56 Tabard Street, London SE1 4LG.
Participants will be encouraged to develop as autonomous and resourceful learners.
